Book Talk: “The Men Can’t be Saved” with author Ben Purkert

November 16, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

The world of the advertising profession has a long tradition of being the setting for works of fiction. From 1947’s The Hucksters through the acclaimed television series Mad Men and beyond, the advertising milieu has been fertile ground on which to build works that examine the state of our culture through stories of the creative people who respond to and shape that culture in mass media products.

Ben Purkert has created a worthy entry into this lineage with his debut novel, The Men Can’t be Saved. Drawing on his own experiences as a young copywriter in a major ad agency, Purkert explores themes of identity, careerism and power through the lens of the colorful characters and situations that manage to be both absurd and truthful.

Jersey City resident Purkert will visit the Gardner Main Branch of the Jersey City Free Public Library on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 6:30 PM to read from and discuss his work and his life as an author. Books will be available for purchase and inscription, courtesy of Word bookstore.
