The Basic Goodness of People

March 24, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

On Sunday, March 24, 4 pm, the public is invited to join us to celebrate the publication of a new Hoboken Historical Museum oral history chapbook, “The Basic Goodness of People,” based on the  recollections of long-time Hoboken resident and intrepid volunteer, Rose Orozco.

When people get together in Hoboken to help one another—whether in an extreme crisis like Superstorm Sandy, or to fulfill day-to-day needs and forward community projects—you will find Rose Orozco there. A former ER nurse and current volunteer for nonprofits including St. Matthew’s Lunchtime Ministry, Fund for a Better Waterfront, and the Hoboken Historical Museum, and a member of the Rent Leveling Board, Rose enjoys encounters with Hoboken residents old and new.

In the interview from which our most recent chapbook was derived, Rose spoke about her engagement with the people of this city: “When we’re talking about the people of Hoboken, when they know there’s something [that needs to be done], they do something.” She told us, “I do believe in the basic goodness of people. I really, truly do.”

This event is free and all attendees receive a copy of the book. Click here to learn more about the Museum’s Oral History Chapbook series, initiated in collaboration with the Friends of the Hoboken Public Library in 2000 as a way of preserving Hoboken’s unique identity and traditions.
