Light-Up Ride “Parks & Rec”

October 8, 2021 @ 6:30 pm

FRIDAY Night: Our Light-Up Ride Goes to the Green Spaces

Our monthly Light-Up Ride—the last one scheduled for 2021—is this Friday, Oct. 8, gathering around 6:45 p.m. and rolling at 7:00 from Grove PATH Plaza. Be ready to ride by then!

This month we’re headed to at least 3 parks in Jersey City: Liberty State Park on the Hudson, then Leonard Gordon Park (“Mosquito Park”) in the Heights, then Lincoln Park on the West Side.

Along the way, in India Square, we’re hoping to look in briefly on the local celebration of the Hindu holiday of Navratri, which brings hundreds of people out to dance in the streets. There seem to be some COVID protocols around actually joining this year—and of course there’s always a need to be respectful—but Jersey City celebrations typically are welcoming to passers-by of all beliefs who enjoy the spectacular scene.

We’ll see! It usually doesn’t get really big until around 11 p.m., so some of us may make a second trip over there late-night if you’re game.

Ride route will be longer than some of our Light-Up Rides, probably 18–20 miles. We will stop for brief breaks, including one in each park.

It will also include climbing up Hoboken Avenue, using the new protected bike lane. And also a few smaller hills from the west. But don’t worry! As always, we will go slowly, wait for everyone to bike (or walk!) up, then take a little break soon after the top so you can catch your breath.

Please bring a mask, in case you need it to stop indoors anywhere or get further in at Navratri.
