Jersey City Cranksgiving

December 4, 2021 @ 11:00 am

Come ride around the city, shop for food items, and race to deliver them for a big group donation for those in need! You could win prizes from local bike shops and restaurants!

OK, #BikeJC, Thanksgiving’s over—get ready for Jersey City Cranksgiving, a tradition that has spread to many cities around the world!

Sat., Dec. 4, registration starts at 11 a.m.; wheels down at noon. Official end of event is 4:00 p.m. (though the first JC winner in 2017 finished in about 42 minutes!).

A mashup of an alley-cat bike race (though most riders take their sweet time), a scavenger hunt, and a food donation drive, Jersey City Cranksgiving benefits those in need through a a partnership with the kind people of Grace Community Services.

You’ll start from the Abraham Lincoln Statue in Lincoln Park (near JFK Blvd. & Belmont Ave.), where you’ll be given a list of needed food items, and local stores where you can buy each one (for a total of around $25).

Then off you’ll ride! You choose your route.

When you’ve bought all the items, you’ll ride to the end point at Second Street and Erie Street downtown, where all items will be collected for donation through Grace.

First ones there with all the items win prizes! But if you don’t want to hurry, that’s OK too, and most people just take their time.

PLEASE BE SAFE AND CONSIDERATE, AND OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS!

At a minimum, you’ll need:
–a bike, any kind you like
–a lock (for when you’re inside stores)
$25 to buy the stuff
–a backpack, panniers, baskets, or some way to carry the stuff. It’s no more than one person can carry on a bike, but you will need some kind of container for it.
–a signed liability waiver (you can sign it online below)

You might also want to wear a wacky costume. There’s a prize for best costume too!

Please note this is not a Bike JC event, but it is produced and sustained through friends of ours, as part of a big network of Cranksgivings all over the place (originally put on in 1999 by NYC bike messengers!). But we love it and many of our familiar faces will be there!

Follow our friends @jc.cranksgiving on Instagram or @Jersey City Cranksgiving on Facebook for any further details, FAQs, and updates. Then tell your friends, bundle up, and ride out for this great holiday tradition!
