All aboard the Hudson County brew trail
Hudson County, New Jersey, isn’t new to the microbrewery craze, but it’s quickly becoming the go to destination for craft beer enthusiasts. This should come as no surprise, as the county has a storied history of alcohol production. New Jersey’s first brewery was founded in New Netherland (which is now called Hoboken). Hudson County has found its way back to its distilling roots, and new breweries and distilleries are popping up all over! Here are some of our favorites, which are perfect for large groups.
New Jersey Beer Company, North Bergen
New Jersey Beer Co’s tasting room is open for drinks and tours from Wednesday to Sunday. With board games, weekly trivia, music performances and a nostalgic jukebox, the taproom offers an inviting, “only in Jersey” atmosphere to enjoy a flight or two with friendly neighbors and new friends.
902 Brewing Company, Jersey City
This taproom offers an ever-rotating tap list with options like Ruby Red Grapefruit Hard Seltzer, Blood Orange IPA, Jersey Blueberry Sour and Italian Style Pilsener. The best part? The brewery is open seven days a week, from 3pm Monday to Friday and at noon on the weekends with views of Manhattan from the rooftop.
Departed Soles, Jersey City
Come to Hudson County and sample our award-winning gluten free beer at Departed Soles. What distinguishes this brewery from the rest is that they are the first and only celiac certified brewery in New Jersey, offering a vast selection of award-winning 100% gluten-free beer.
The Thirsty Quaker, Jersey City
If you feel up to a challenge, you can even learn to make your own beer at one of The Thirsty Quakers beer-making classes. They specialize in retail and home brewing supplies but also offer beer tastings weekly and have a well-stocked shop of over 800 craft beers and spirits for boozy souvenirs.
