Monumental Views:Painting History and Horizons at Ellis Island
August 22 @ 8:00 am - August 24 @ 5:00 pm
$475.00
This three-day plein air watercolor workshop offers artists a rare opportunity to paint from one of the most historically and visually compelling sites in the United States— Ellis Island. With sweeping views of the Statue of Liberty, the Manhattan skyline, and access to the hauntingly beautiful interiors of the Ellis Island Hospital complex, participants will explore themes of memory, migration, and monumentality through the expressive medium of watercolor.
Each day, participants will be guided through the process of capturing iconic vistas and evocative spaces in watercolor, with a focus on composition, atmospheric perspective, and expressive mark-making. Mornings will be spent outdoors, painting panoramic views of the Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor, and the Manhattan skyline from various vantage points on the island. In the afternoons, artists will have the option to work inside the historic Ellis Island Hospital complex, painting its timeworn interiors and the poignant traces of its past. The workshop will include live demonstrations by Mario Robinson and individual guidance, tailored to each artist’s level and goals. Whether you’re drawn to the monumental symbolism of Lady Liberty or the quiet mystery of the abandoned hospital wards, this workshop will offer a deeply enriching experience for artists seeking to merge historical context with personal expression.
